At Barossa and Light Optometrist we use the latest technologies, including Digital Spectral Imaging (Ocular Coherence Tomography), Retinal Photodocumentation and measurement of the Macular Pigment Density to assess clients who are at risk of developing conditions such as Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma and Diabetic Eye Disease.

Detection of these conditions at their earliest stage provides the best possible outcome for treatment. These conditions usually occur at the level of the retina and require careful monitoring and assessment. Most retinal conditions causing sight loss have progressive change, some of which is visible. Our Optometrists are well qualified to treat and manage eye disease.

Retinal Photography

Records a 2 dimensional appearance of the posterior eye structures which allows visible comparison throughout a lifetime.

Digital Spectral Imaging (OCT)

The most recent and most accurate technology, providing a 3 dimensional scan of the retinal tissue, which is not visible to the naked eye or photography. OCT provide the most comprehensive analysis of the retina in the early detection of Macula Degeneration, Glaucoma or Diabetic Eye Disease.

Macula Pigment Density

Measurement can indicate clients who are at risk of developing Macula Degeneration. Macula pigment provides protection to the Macula by absorbing harmful blue light and reducing oxidative stress to the macula tissue. People with low Macula pigment density are at a higher risk of developing Macula Degeneration. Macula pigment density can be increased with diet and supplements, and clients with this issue may benefit from blue filtering coatings on their glasses.
